THE GAME IS NOT THE ONLY POPULAR ASPECT OF GOLF
Experts estimate real estate sales in golf course communities have increased by 10 to 15 percent in the last five years. It is a soaring trend that is expected to continue, and likely increase.
"There are quite a few new clubs coming with these opportunities," said Steve Schmidt, a realtor with Remax Horizons of Dover, Del. "The game of golf is exploding from a popularity standpoint. There a lot of young kids involved and it's a good retiree game. It's not to strenuous and it is good exercise."
He credits touring professionals, especially Tiger Woods, with a portion of the success of golf course communities, saying that the game's popularity can be directly related with people's desire to be associated with golf in their daily routine. There was a similar property boom when Jack Nicklaus was residing on top of the golfing world.
A potential buyer of a golf course home or condominium should also highlight the facility's amenities. Some golf clubs offer golf memberships to homeowners, others provide lawn care service. Most establishments will allow use of recreational services such as the swimming pool or tennis courts. Find out if the club has a homeowner's association and what charities the facility is associated with. The condition of the clubhouse and golf course designer are also important aspects to consider during this process.
