Although golf in Hong Kong is limited to just four golf clubs the sport is becoming increasingly popular having been introduced to the country some 100 years ago. Thanks mainly to a large expatriate population Hong Kong was the first country in the Far East to introduce the game. Perhaps unsurprisingly for a country with such a dense population courses are often oversubscribed leading to a booming market for local driving ranges. There are some beautiful golf courses in Hong Kong, though with great views across the greens and out to sea. If you are invited to join a round of golf in Hong Kong it will be an experience not to be missed. Whilst the courses allow visitors during the week, availability is very limited and often during the early morning. Golf in Hong Kong is hugely popular but expensive and it is always advisable to book your golf in advance as demand far outweighs supply in this region. Hong Kong golf club was formed in 1889 and comprises the 18-hole Fanling Course and the 9-hole par-3 Deep Water Bay Course. This is often described as the finest course in Hong Kong. New developments are ongoing in an attempt to increase facilities to satisfy demand and in late 2006 the SkyCity Nine Eagle Golf Course is due to launch at Hong Kong International Airport. It will be the first golf course in Hong Kong to encompass a nine hole course and Island Green. This HK$100million project highlights the importance placed upon this gentleman’s sport for industry entertaining within Asia.
