    DESCRIPTION

Founded over 100 years ago, Royal-Mid Surrey Golf Club is an island of tranquility in an increasingly demanding, stressful, modern world. Set in Royal Parkland at Richmond-Upon-Thames, it shares a bend in the River Thames with the Royal Botanic Gardens at Kew. Royal Mid Surrey enjoys the most accessible of locations being only 9 miles from the centre of London, the M25 orbital motorway and Heathrow Airport, and adjacent to both Rail and Underground stations.

Royal Mid Surrey Golf Club has two fine 18 hole courses designed by the great J H Taylor, five times Open Champion and Club Professional for 47 years. The Outer Course is the scene for the famous Antlers Open Competition for Amateur Foursomes Medal play; the Inner Course is home to the well-known Mothers and Daughters Open Competition. Both courses at Royal Mid Surrey enjoy the benefit of an irrigation system installed in 1997 which waters all fairways and aprons as well as putting greens and teeing grounds. The result is 36 holes, which retain a green lushness during the highest temperatures when most other courses in the South are burnt brown.

Royal Mid-Surrey was, for many years, known throughout British golf for the comfort and hospitality to be found in its Clubhouse, an elegant pavilion-style building standing in large, well tended gardens, containing two comfortable lounges, two spacious bars, snooker and other recreation rooms, together with an attractive air conditioned Dining Room which seated 160. Sadly this Clubhouse was totally destroyed by fire on the night of 30th March 2001 with the loss of the Club's entire collection of golfing trophies and memorabilia.

Royal Mid Surrey's new, grander clubhouse was built to carry on this tradition and was opened by the Duke Of York in November 03. Today friendly and helpful staff continue to welcome visitors and bona-fide golf societies; the pleasure and privileges enjoyed by members are at their disposal. We are confident that Royal Mid-Surrey provides an unequalled combination of golf and hospitality ideal for society or company golf days.

The Outer Course was designed by the great J H Taylor, five times Open Champion and Professional at Royal Mid-Surrey for 47 years. The Course is sufficiently flat and open not to daunt the 18 handicapper, but its longer holes and the tightly-placed hazards make the low, single-figure player think hard before placing his shots. Both Inner and Outer Courses, together with their environs, are framed by Kew Gardens, Syon Park, the River Thames and the Old Deer Park.

Royal Mid Surrey's Inner Course is laid out in the area largely bounded by the Outer Course. It is a particularly attractive course which threads its way around the picturesque Georgian "King's Observatory". Shorter than the Outer, what it lacks in length it more than makes up in charm and subtle challenge.
