The Doonbeg Golf Club course is the product of the creative genius of Greg Norman. Doonbeg is situated along the towering dunes on a crescent of Ireland's famed southwestern shore between Lahinch and Ballybunion, and overlooking the vast expanse of the Atlantic Ocean. The dramatic coastal landscape of this area was inevitably going to be made into a links course but the challenge for Greg Norman when designing Doonbeg was to create a links course which stands up to the competition in a country of magnificent links courses. Doonbeg does not disappoint.
Greg Norman has been moved to declare "It's Ireland. It's Irish golf. It's links golf. Sand dunes like you'll never see again... I tell everybody about this course. I tell them that I have got the best site in the world and it's at Doonbeg in Ireland."
Doonbeg Golf Club plays along 1.5 miles of beach and dunes. The ocean is visible from the green, fairway, or tee of 16 of the 18 holes. The par 72 layout features a single loop of nine holes out and nine back and it plays 6,800 yards from the back tees.
